A Fable for Tomorrow

“What we are doing to the forests of the world is but a mirror reflection of what we are doing to ourselves and to one another.”
― Chris Maser

Town Before the Blight

  • Harmonious surroundings
  • Wild animals like foxes and deer are living peacefully in the town
  • There are a lot of trees and plants like laurel, viburnum, ferns, alder, and wildflower that caught the attention of the travellers because of its beauty
  • The countryside is very famous for the abundance and variety of its bird life; many people migrated to observe them
  • Since the town lay in the middle of prosperous farms, the place is very rich in grains and orchards – from the hillsides
  • In spring, white clouds bloom above the green fields
  • In autumn, oak, maple, and birch tree produces a blaze of colour like flames
  • In winter, birds feed on berries and seeds of dried weeds on the snow

Silent Town After the Blight

  • Several sudden and unexplained deaths among children and adults
  • Poultry products became scarce since the chickens, cattle, and sheep were struck by a mysterious malady
  • Few birds seen were moribund and they trembled violently and could not fly
  • Only silence lay over the fields, woods, and marsh.
  • Road side, once surrounded by trees and plants, withered and became deserted
  • Streams are also lifeless and all fishes had died
  • The town is completely lifeless
